SCHOLARSHIP FOR THE VISUALLY IMPAIRED TO STUDY ABROAD (SVI-SA)

1 Scholarship, ¥3 Million

The SVI-SA Program supports visually impaired Japanese or special permanent resident students for graduate or undergraduate study abroad.

Eligibility Requirements

1 Applicants must be visually impaired men or women, with a Certificate of Disability Grade 1-6.

Applicants must be Japanese nationals or special permanent residents of Japan, living in Japan from the time of the application until the end of March 2009.


All CWAJ scholarship applicants are required to be living in Japan at the time of their application. We regret, therefore, that we are unable to accept any applications from outside Japan.

Applicants for an undergraduate award must have completed at least two years of undergraduate study in Japan by the end of March 2009.

Applicants for a graduate award must have graduated with a degree from a Japanese university (4 year course) by the end of March 2009.

Applicants must be accepted in an undergraduate or graduate degree program at an accredited English-speaking university or research institution abroad by April 10, 2009 for the 2009-2010 academic year.

Applicants must submit a TOEFL score at the time of application. The TOEFL must have been taken after October 1, 2006. Instead of a TOEFL score, applicants may submit an IELTS score, taken after October 1, 2006.

Holders of scholarships greater than ¥1.0 million from any other scholarship foundation or from company scholarship programs (kigyo ryugaku) are ineligible. Financial aid and awards from the university where the applicant will study are excepted from this limitation.

Members of CWAJ are ineligible.

Application forms are available from the CWAJ website and by request from CWAJ.

Requests for application forms will be accepted until Friday, November 14, 2008. To obtain an application form by email, please write to scholarship@cwaj.org   To obtain an application form by mail, please write to the address below.

      APPLICATION REQUEST (SVI-SA)

 

Submitting the Application

-Application submission by e-mail is NOT acceptable.

-All applications must be in writing and in English.

-Do not send by yubin kakitome (registered mail) or takkyubin.

- PERIOD OF ACCEPTANCE: Applications must be postmarked on or between      Saturday, November 1 and Wednesday, November 26, 2008.

-Completed applications must be mailed to the address below:

-Incomplete or late applications will not be considered. Extra documents will be disregarded.

-No documents will be returned.

 

Interviews and Selection

Interviews of the finalists will be held in Tokyo. Candidates should plan to be available during the month when interviews are being held and will be notified at least two weeks in advance if they have been selected for an interview. The interview will be conducted in both English and Japanese. Applicants will be notified of the results in writing.

CWAJ reserves the right to make its own selections and does not enter into any discussion of its decisions.
