GRADUATE SCHOLARSHIP FOR JAPANESE WOMEN
TO STUDY ABROAD (SA)
Applications for 2008-2009 Academic Year Scholarships are now
closed. The posted applications are for reference only. Applications
for the 2009-2010 Scholarships will be available in May, 2008.

Scholarships, ¥3 Million each
The
SA
Program supports graduate study at English-speaking universities
and research institutions abroad for women who are nationals or
permanent residents of Japan.
Eligibility
Requirements
-
Applicants must be women who are nationals or
permanent residents of Japan, living
in Japan from the time of application until the end of March
2008.
Individuals currently studying or living abroad are
ineligible.
All CWAJ scholarship applicants are
required to be living in
Japan at the time of their application. We regret, therefore,
that we are unable to accept any inquiries from outside Japan.

Applicants must have graduated with a degree from a
Japanese university (4 year course) by the end of March 2008.

Applicants must submit a TOEFL score
of at least
570 (CBT 230, IBT 88) if applying for a graduate degree in
the natural sciences, math, medicine or engineering,
and 600
(CBT 250, IBT 100) if applying for a degree in any other
field. The TOEFL must have been taken after March 31,
2006. Instead of a TOEFL score, applicants may submit an IELTS
score, taken after
March 31, 2006, of at least
6.5 if applying for a graduate degree in the
natural sciences, math, medicine or engineering, and
7.0
if applying for a degree in any other field.

Applicants must be accepted in a graduate degree
program at an accredited, English-speaking university or
research institution abroad by April 10,
2008 for the 2008-2009 academic year.

Applicants who have studied abroad at the college
level in an English-speaking institution for more than a total
of two (2) academic years are ineligible.
-
Holders of scholarships greater than ¥1.0 million from
any other scholarship foundation or from company scholarship
programs (kigyo ryugaku) are ineligible. Financial aid
and awards from the university where the applicant will study
are excepted from this limitation.
-
Former recipients of CWAJ awards and members of CWAJ
are ineligible.

the Application
Application
forms are available
only from the CWAJ website. The forms are in PDF format.

Note that if

Reader 4, you may not be able to read the applications correctly.

Submitting
the Application
-Application submission by e-mail is NOT acceptable.
-All applications must be in writing and in English.
-Do not send by registered mail (yubin kakitome) or
takkyubin.
-PERIOD OF ACCEPTANCE: Applications must be postmarked on or
between
Saturday, September 1 and
Friday, September
21, 2007.
-Completed applications must be mailed to the address below:

-Incomplete or
late applications will not be considered. Extra documents will be
disregarded.
-No documents will be returned.
Interviews
and Selection
Interviews of
the finalists will be held in Tokyo.
Candidates should plan to be available during the month when
interviews are being held and will be notified at least two weeks in
advance if they have been selected for an interview. The interview
will be conducted in English. Applicants will be notified of the
results in writing.
CWAJ reserves the right to make its own selections and does not
enter into any discussion of its decisions.
