Rewarding and fun volunteer opportunities for CWAJ members

Throughout the year, VVI gives needed English language support to the visually impaired community in the Tokyo area. Have an inspiring and fun volunteer experience in 2012 by taking part in VVI! Here’s what we do:

English Conversation class at the Japan Vocational Development Center for the Blind, held weekly on Tuesday and Thursday afternoons for two hours. To find out more about this program, pair up as an assistant to the regular volunteer teacher to see firsthand if you’d like to continue on a more regular basis.

At Tsukuba High School for the Blind, VVI volunteers help students prepare for the interview section of EIKEN English language proficiency tests (mid-June and November).

English Conversation Gatherings, get-togethers to provide Japanese visually impaired adults the opportunity for enjoying English through interesting, cross-cultural programs. Held about 3 times a year, all CWAJ members and family are welcome to take part.

No previous experience is necessary to take part in any VVI program. All CWAJ members are warmly welcomed to join in the fun and rewarding programs of VVI! All you have to do is let us know how you want to contribute to these worthy programs.

CWAJ Charity Concert
featuring Visually Impaired Artists
Christmas charity concert
Concert Album

Featuring Visually Impaired Artists was held on Sunday, December 11 at Pasona Hall which was organized by CWAJ’s Volunteers for the Visually Impaired (VVI) Committee. ¥523,000 was raised at the CWAJ Charity Concert.
CWAJ donated all the money raised to the National Committee of Welfare for the Blind in Japan (NCWBJ). CWAJ’s donation will be used to purchase much needed daily use aids and appliances for the visually impaired which the victims lost in the March 11 disasters.
More than 200 people enjoyed the beautiful and heartwarming performances of twin pianists Rie and Risa Kimura, guitarist/vocalist Ryota Kuriyama, and Tsukuba School for the Visually Impaired Alumnae Handbell Choir “Akane”.
We would like to thank all the performers and Pasona Group for donating their services and also, Mr. Minamisawa (1999 CWAJ SVI Scholar) for donating all the sales of his handmade pendants and cellphone straps.
Thank you so much for your support!
