The luscious music of Curtis Patterson and Bruce Huebner.
Charity concert for Great east Japan Earthquake

With a repertoire that runs from the traditional to American jazz and their own dazzling compositions, Curt and Bruce are two musicians uniquely nurtured by the strong cultural heritage of the Fukushima area.

Curtis Patterson, Koto player   Curtis Patterson studied with modern koto great Tadao Sawai and holds a master's license from the Sawai Koto Institute. He is also the first non-Japanese to graduate from the NHK training program for young performers of traditional Japanese instruments. He currently teaches both Koto and Shamisen in Tokyo and at the Yokohama International School.

Bruce Huebner studied Shakuhachi with the late Goro Yamaguchi , a Living National Treasure, at Tokyo University of Fine Arts and Music where he was the first non-Japanese to receive a masters degree in Traditional Music. Following graduation he moved to Fukushima Prefecture where he earned his mastership in Shakuhachi from Chikuyusha, one of the oldest shakuhachi guilds in the country. Now based in Tokyo he continues to teach Shakuhachi at the Fukushima Prefectural Medical University and private monthly lessons in Yabuki. Bruce Huebner, Shakuhachi player

Curt and Bruce began performing as a duo in 2006. In 2007 they presented their original compositions and arrangements at over 50 venues in Japan, and January 2008 saw them in the Pacific Northwest for their North American debut tour. In response to the March 11th disaster they returned to Fukushima in May and June of 2011 and did two tours of Evacuation Centers.
