Meet CWAJ’s 2008 scholars and Enjoy ‘Bel Canto’ too!

The month of May marks one of the true highlights of the CWAJ year: the chance to meet the impressive women who have been awarded scholarships for the academic year 2008-2009. This is also an opportunity to celebrate the fine results of all those who contributed to the Print Show and strenuous efforts of Donation Committee, not to mention the work of the various scholarship committees over the past year.  Come hear about the dreams for the future of 10 brilliant scholars from six nations and be proud of the support CWAJ provides!

 

This year our special program will be Keiko Shigetoh, a soprano with extensive training in Italy, accompanied by our member Yoshiko Kubota at the piano. Ms. Shigetoh performed at the charity concert in January organized by the Italian Women's Association in special collaboration with the Italian Cultural Institute. All proceeds from this concert were donated to the CWAJ Scholarship and Education Fund for the visually impaired.

Keiko Shigetoh, a graduate of the Musashino Academia Musicae of Tokyo, continued her studies at the Conservatorio L. Cherubini in Florence. With a vast repertoire from Bach to contemporary music, Ms. Shigetoh won many awards and performed in various Italian and European contexts as well as debuted numerous works by contemporary composers.

Her program will cover a wide range of beautiful songs from ‘O Mio Babbino Caro’ to ‘I Could Have Danced All Night’, and some Japanese numbers. We are proud to have her again with us to celebrate this year’s scholarship awards.
