YASUYUKI NAMBU Group CEO and President Pasona, Inc. |
|
When you combine dynamic leadership, social activism and a clearly defined mission focused on the changing needs of society, what do you get? The Pasona Group. As a young man fresh out of college, Mr. Nambu found himself unable to obtain full time employment in the 1970s Oil Shock recession. Noticing that many women who desired to work were in the same position, he responded in 1976 by starting a temporary staffing agency– a radical idea at the time in a society dominated by big companies guaranteeing lifetime employment. Since then he has never looked back. He quickly expanded from Osaka to Tokyo and then throughout Japan. Developing the credo that each individual is entitled to interesting and satisfying work regardless of age or gender, the Pasona Group has continued to create new companies to meet the changing needs of society. Several highlights: 1989 –Temporary Sunrise Inc. – promotes employment of people with disabilities 1991 – creates a management agency for corporate childcare centers 1994 – Female University Student Support Project to help students get jobs in a severe recession 1998 –Pasona Talent Bank – talent registry for middle aged and older professionals 2003 - Pasona Heartful Inc. – employment for physically and mentally handicapped people 2005 – Pasona 02 – a farm in the basement of Pasona headquarters raising rice and various vegetables and fruits created to research the possibilities for urban agriculture Today the Pasona Group is a global enterprise that comprises over 35 companies in Japan and around the world with offices in the United States, China, Hong Kong, Taiwan, Singapore, India and Vietnam. In addition to its business activities, the Pasona Group actively supports the arts and the ability of young people to be leaders in the future. The Art Village Project promotes art among disabled people. A Tempo provides performance opportunities for young musicians. The Pasona International Exchange Program has provided over 300 students from Asia and the United States with summer internships in Japanese companies since 1988. Mr. Nambu is a sought after speaker in Japan and abroad. He is the author of 6 books and numerous articles and was named Entrepreneur of the Year for three years running by the Japan Economic Journal in 1987 – 1989. He frequently gives seminars on the subjects of leadership and the entrepreneurial spirit within the business community and at the university level – including Waseda, Kyoto, Osaka and Kyushu Universities. Mr. Nambu is excited about speaking to a women’s group whose focus is scholarship and educational charity and has specially rearranged his schedule to be with us in March. We hope that you can join us for this exciting luncheon and extend him a warm welcome from CWAJ! |
