Ms. Sawatari is an enthusiastic supporter of the CWJ Print Show. She has been a Selection Advisory Committee member, and a valuable resource to the Print Show committee regarding print artists, techniques and trends in contemporary print making. Her world travels, including study in France, has given her an international view on hanga.

  During her travels she became acquainted with Oliver Statler, sharing his interest and love of Japanese prints. In 1956 Oliver Statler wrote a book titled “Modern Japanese Prints: An Art Reborn” and in doing so introduced Japanese hanga to the world. His passion for collecting Japanese prints, especially woodblocks, lead Mr. Statler to befriend many contemporary printmakers. Mr. Statler was instrumental in helping launch the first CWAJ Print Show, and here we are many years later on the eve of our 54th Print Show. Under the guidance of Ms. Sawatari, several CWAJ members are translating this wonderful book into Japanese.
